Tutorial title: Designing, Developing and Delivering Web-based courseware

Outline: In any distance education setting our goal as educators is to create an environment which will provide our students with a vehicle that will motivate and inspire them to become knowledge builders. Over the last two year in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan we have been developing a model that does just that. We have been exploring programs and tools that enable our students to inquire, encourage, discourse, collaborate and promote active learning. By analyzing the student's needs, particular educational objectives and good teaching practices our team has developed a unique approach to course development and delivery. This session will share our past, present and future journey in distance education, the Web and online learning. This practical tutorial session will lead you through many of the steps needed in the Designing, Developing and Delivering of Online, Web-based courses.

This tutorial is suitable for teachers working in universities, TAFE colleges, schools and private training organisations.

Biography: Darren Cannell has a degree in education and twenty years high school teaching experience. His expertise comes from first hand experience and he has been project leader for the Saskatoon Catholic Cyber School project since the inception. Now as Assistant Principal in charge he works with a team of 12 teachers in the largest Cyber School in Saskatchewan.

He has presented at numerous local, provincial, national and international events showcasing and sharing his unique approach to working with technology to teach students at a distance education. Darren is a WebCT certified instructor as well as holding WebCT Training the Trainer Certification.
