The Working Council of CIOs (Business Wire, 2001) reported that knowledge workers spend 35% of their productive time searching for information online, and 40% cannot find the information they need to do their jobs on their intranets.
The core activity of Universities is generating, managing and disseminating information. With such a significant portion of time spent looking for information, there is a huge opportunity for Universities and other organisations to improve efficiency simply by directing information more effectively to staff and students.
