Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting Proposals.

Special Interest Groups (SIG's)

Joanna Richardson <jrichard@bond.edu.au> and Janet Fletcher <jfletche@scu.edu.au> wish to run a Special Interest Group on electronic reference services which will be held on Saturday17th June at the Resort.

The session would focus on the issues and challenges of providing this type of service in libraries.

Topics covered would include (but would not be limited to): IT aspects, key organisational issues, client satisfaction.

Who Should Attend? - Librarians and academics who want to better understand how their courses are resourced.

Sat June 17
A morning or afternoon visit to the Cairns JCU campus, to view the new$12.5 million library building. The new Library is designed on a learning centre model. It houses resource collections, information and reference services, general access and teaching computing facilities, assistive technologies for students with disabilities, study skills staff, student equity and audiovisual functions. The learning centre concept recognises the need for instruction for all members of the University community about multimedia information resources &Mac246; their production, their integration into teaching programs, and their evaluation and use. Morning or afternoon will be included in the cost

Digital Horizons: Law & Business in the Digital Environment, Chaired by Brian Fitzgerald, the Head of the School of Law and Justice, Southern Cross University. <bfitzger@scu.edu.au> This is a whole day event which will provide an overview and forum for discussion of key issues concerning the future of electronic commerce, particularly in the areas of taxation and e-health.

Who should attend? Lawyers, accountants, health professionals, IT industry professionals, academics, government officers, e-business enterprises, and other interested parties.

Cost for the day is $145 which includes morning and afternoon tea and
