Living the Dream - Practical Web Applications
Hoylen Sue h.sue@citr.com.au
Hoylen says about the paper:
"To get things done, you need to do it yourself. If the intranet
revolution is going to happen, you will have to make it happen where
you are.
This is why this computer-animation/networking/resource-discovery
researcher got involved with intranet applications. Those were the
dark days when intranet was not a real word (is it now?) We got
involved in developing Web applications for in-house use. Their
benefits and popularity gave them a life of their own: they are now
mature pieces of software which are now being used in several other
organisations.
Since this paper was written, every major company seems to be
prompting intranet products (not to mention every second paper in the
Business stream of AusWeb96). I'm going to present
a case study style
paper, with two main points: its possible to roll your own intranet
applications, which is good if you want something customised for your
particular needs; and we've been doing, it's easy and you can do it
too.
Those interested in setting up their own intranet solutions will find
this session of interest; especially if you are considering whether
to get a commercial off-the-shelf solution or writing your own."
