Abstract

An Intranet (or private Web) is defined as the use of Internet technologies within an enterprise. By applying the Internet's World Wide Web technology to a corporate TCP/IP LAN, data in multiple databases can be made readily available to corporate users on any desktop. An Intranet is an inexpensive and simple groupware alternative.

All Intranet achitectures share some common elements. This paper reviews those commonalities and presents them as a checklist for developing an Intranet.

Topics include: Requirements to begin, sample network architectures, case studies of Intranet development, a review of common features, development of a checklist and a summary of critical design criteria.
