Beyond Blokenet

Public Access Internet - extending the audience for the Internet and general community.

ï A comprehensive marketing plan needs to be developed incorporating this study and the one completed by Stocks (1995).

ï The Editorial Team needs to revise the structure of the information to make it more accessible. Several methods have been suggested including an encyclopedia approach and a magazine approach.

ï VICNET should advertise special "packages" of information that will encourage use by particular market segments. One of these "packages" could be government information.

ï The indexing and search engines need re-evaluating to determine if they can become more effective.

ï Staff must be given time to develop their multimedia knowledge and expand VICNET's multimedia applications.

ï Promotion of VICNET - by obtaining sponsorship for web pages. A sponsors logo being placed prominantly on a subject web page for a fee.

ï The high level of customer support and strong community focus should not be comprimised by lack of staff.

ï Other research methods need to be employed to determine the experiences had by others, not endeared to fill in online survey.

ï Marketing VICNET both in the main stream media and in the particular places identified in this chapter emphasising that VICNET is:

* local
* current
* easy to use
* sound policy
* Victoria's network
* low cost
* strong customer focus/support.
