Planning Internet Training Programs

Abstract

This paper reviews the literature of differences in learning style, computer and Internet use to determine the characteristics a successful course of Internet training should have to appeal to as broad a population base as possible.

Previous research suggests that introductory Internet courses should: emphasise the content rather than the delivery of the information, relate to the individual goals of the trainees in a practical manner, use a combination of learning styles to cater to a wide audience, make the surrounding environment as pleasant as possible, avoid gender bias in language or examples of Internet sources, provide relevant role models, encourage interaction and team work in workshop participants, and ensure that all participants have an equal chance to put their views and have their queries answered.
