Currently Head of the Centre for Networked Access to Scholarly Information
in the Australian National University Library which is part of the
University's Centre for Networked Information and Publishing (CNIP).
One of Australia's pioneers in the use of the internet within universities
In the 60's undertook postgraduate research and had minor academic posts
in
physics at Sydney University and University of Queensland.
Eight years at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Library finishing as the
science and technology adviser in the Legislative Research Service.
A variety of jobs in the Commonwealth Public Service including positions
in
the Prime Ministers Office, Australian Government Publishing Service,
Department of the Media and the Department of Science and the Environment.
Appointed Deputy University Librarian, Australian National University
Library in 1981 before taking up his present post in 1993.
Current activities - Webmaster of the ANU Library Elisa service and
coordinator of IT projects within the Library.
Joanna says about herself:
I am currently employed at Bond University as Information Technology
Librarian and am a Senior Editor for EJournal, for which I shall
be the
guest editor of a forthcoming issue on "Developments Down Under".
My current areas of interest are:
- expanding the Resources in Tourism Law project on which I reported
at AusWeb95
- developing web-based packages for teaching staff and students searching
techniques
Joanna says about the paper:
We hope that, from this paper, the audience will gain an appreciation of
the fluid state of indexing on the Internet. Because of this, there is
a
need to use more than one indexing service as well as to use advanced
commands in order to make effective use of the various tools.
