Solving some problems of University Education: A Case Study
Abstract
This article describes the problems associated with current
approaches to both on-campus and distance University education and
one attempt to solve these problems using an online, collaborative learning
method. This method included no on-campus lectures, small group collaboration
enable by face-to-face meetings and mailing lists, assignment submission
via email and distribution of the subject's text book via the WWW.
The paper relates student feedback to the approach and describes the tools
that were developed including
- a management system for email assignment submission,
- an interactive overview system to address the lost in hyperspace problem, and
- system to aid in the publishing of a hypermedia textbook.
