Teresa and Mary write:
"We work at the Department of Mathematics and Computing, Central Queensland
University
. Teresa lives at beautiful Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast, and
Mary lives on a cattle property near Rockhampton.

We are members of the Women In Computing Committee which is based in the
Department. One of the aims of the group is to increase the number of
females entering tertiary computing courses. Currently, most computing
science courses in Australia have less than 20% female participation.

Teresa lectures in the Department mainly in the area of database systems.
Mary is involved in technical support for the Department for both staff and
students.

Our paper discusses workshops that we ran for These secondary school students were visiting our University and we wanted
them to have a positive computing experience. We used WWW and email as
tools in the one and a half hour workshops with outstanding success.

The students had fun and at the same time learnt about WWW and email. Many
students indicated their perceptions of computers and computing had changed
from a negative attitude to a positive one."
