Background on AusWeb96
Before describing the plans for AusWeb96 we really can't go past mentioning
the success of AusWeb95 in Ballina. This conference was announced just before
Christmas 1994 and was sold out by January 25th 1995 with the first internet
query on registration coming from Finland. Although only accommodating 140
delegates in 1995 we could have easily sold up to 300 registrations if space
had been available. Hence the move in 1996 to a bigger venue with a larger
capacity to include not only more delegates but more exhibition and display
space.
Conrad Jupiters
Conrad Jupiters has been chosen for AusWeb96 for a number of key reasons:
- the conference space and layout at Conrad is superior to any other
venue in the region allowing for a large plenary areas as well as multiple
breakout and permanent display space.
- the conference space is equipped with the latest audio visual equipment
for sophisticated presentations required by conferences such as AusWeb96.
- the hotel offers excellent 5 star accommodation at a special conference
rate for delegates.
- the Gold Coast is easily accessed by air for both national and international
delegates.
Projected Attendance Pattern for AusWeb96
AusWeb96 is expected to attract around 600 delegates. Our targets are for
300 delegates from the commercial business sector, 150 from Universities
and the education sector and 100 plus from government instrumentalitys.
Examples of attendance from 1995 include Westmead Hospital, Anglo Australian
Observatory, CSIRO, Tasmania Premiers Department, Ipswich City Council,
Law Foundation of NSW, State Library of Victoria and the Northern Territory
Library Service. In all over 20 Universities were also represented including
overseas representation from universities in Belgium, U.K., Hong Kong, Canada,
New Zealand and Japan.
