Web as a Legacy Computer System Application Interface

Michael Hinchliffe mrh@citr.com.au

Michael says that he has been
"Involved in broadband technology research for 6 years.
This has evolved from network technology management to network service
management. This is the focus which has seen my interest in web based
applications develop. Initially web browsers didn't have sufficient
functionality or performance to meet broadband services needs, but
this is rapidly changing.

I've recently worked on Broadband services on the internet. Including web
service GUI design and tool specification. I'm currently looking at
integration issues, use of java / vrml for added functionality in the
user GUI. Also liaising with Griffith University students in the
development of a Java conferencing application.

We at CiTR are also involved in Web/Z39.50 integration projects."

Michael says about his paper:
"Uncertainty with the security of the legacy system is a critical issue
needing resolution for enterprises who are considering internet based
solutions. Attendees will gain an understanding of the issues /
solutions and integration necessary to make a smooth web front end to a
diverse set of legacy application software."
