Towards Providing Software Component Interoperability Information on the WWW

Daniel Scherer, Tobias Murer, Andy Wurtz <>

The paper will be presented by Daniel Scherer. Daniel says about himself:

"After growing up in six different countries all over the world, I studied at
ETH Zurich, Switzerland, where I received a computer science engineering
diploma (M.Sc. equivalent) in 1992. I have since been working at ETH's
Institut TIK as a research assistant, and I hope to obtain a PhD degree in
near future.

I have participated in a project implementing compilers for the ADAM
multithreaded parallel machine. Then I have worked on the GIPSY project of
generating Integrated Process Support Environments (IPSEs), and I am now
concentrating on a distributed process-independent IPSE kernel that supports
cooperative software engineering. We believe that the presentation of process
information on the WWW as described in our paper is an exciting and promising
new application for the GIPSY project."

Daniel says about his paper:
"We believe that software interoperability issues (among many others) are
critical to the success of the emerging electronic software component market
on the WWW which represents great potential for business opportunities. With
our technical paper, we show how interoperability information is available in
the development process and how it may be presented on the WWW. We hope to
provide a pragmatic approach to describe software component interoperability
on a level that is feasible today, and we hope to motivate further research in
interoperability issues."
