Introduction to CGI Programming

Workshop Abstract
This course introduces fundamentals of programming for the Common Gateway
Interface. Form handling, Database access, and scripting methods are all
covered in a practical, down to earth fashion. It will be presented by Ashley
Roll (BInfTech (Hons)) who is a Research Scientist with the Cooperative
Research Centre for Distributed Systems Technology.

- Server Push (dynamic pages)
- Security Issues and Solutions
- Databases and CGI
This will be a lecture style presentation, with informative notes supplied.
There will also be a problem solving session where attendees can pose
problems to Ashley and he will attempt to show how they can be solved.
Who should attend
This course is aimed at people who have developed web pages before, and
wish
to go beyond the basic, static HTML. To do any dynamic or interactive
content on the Web requires the use of CGI (Common Gateway Interface)
programs, this course is desiged to introduce the concepts and skills needed
to create interactive content on the web.
About the Workshop Presenter - Ashley Roll
Ashley Roll (BInfTech (Hons)) is a Research Scientist with the Cooperative
Research Centre for Distributed Systems Technology (DSTC). Ash's speciality
is creating programs to interface existing technologies to the World Wide
Web. His most notable recent implementation was the completely automatated
html conversion of Queensland State election result data in real time. He
has experience in all areas of web site creation, including Unix server
administration and configuration.
