ISDN and the Web
Workshop Abstract
ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is a digital service which provides
higher data speeds. As such it will be a universal entry point for connection
to the so called information super highway.
The ISDN and the Web workshop will provide a crash introduction to ISDN
technology. Participants will discover what equipment is needed and the
costs involved. Developers will discover what is and is not possible and
network specialists will learn of the latest developments.
The workshop is sponsored by Ticom Pty Ltd (AVM equipment)
Fax +61 7 3682923, Telephone +61 7 3670450.
Full Day Saturday, 6 July
About the Workshop
ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is a digital telephone connection
which provides higher data speeds than conventional telephone lines. Speeds
of 64 or 128 kbps of raw data can be sent over ISDN compared with about
28 kbps over good conventional telephone lines. Telstra are about to launch
an improved national ISDN service. ISDN provides fast connections to the
Internet in which the response the user sees is usually limited by the congestion
on the Internet. ISDN can provide connections for conection of small local
area networks to the Internet, information kiosk systems and video conferencing.
The ISDN and the Web workshop will provide a crash introduction to ISDN
technology and services. Users hoping for a faster connection to their Internet
access provider will discover what equipment and costs are involved. Developers
of Web pages and educators hoping to use ISDN as a distance learning link
will discover what is and is not possible. Network specialists will learn
of the latest developments in standards, products and international ISDN.
The workshop will provide a general introduction to ISDN equipment and services
in Australia. A more detailed look will be taken at one protocol in particular
the Point to Point Protocol (PPP) which is becoming the principal means
of ensuring that ISDN products can connect to each other. Demonstrations
of such connections and video conferencing will be available to workshop
participants.
Who Should Attend
Anyone wanting high performance Internet access from home or business. Developers
of Web pages and Distance learning providers. Networking specialists.
