Abstract
There has been a massive rush over the last few years to place courseware
on the Web, on the assumption that this will improve student learning.
Little work has been performed on testing the value of
this assumption over an extended period - largely because the Web is so
young.
This paper reports on use of some courseware over a three year period,
to give a longitudinal analysis of the use and possible
value of courseware, both from a local and external student viewpoint.
The paper is based on an analysis of server logs over a three year period
and attempts to draw conclusions despite the poor quality of the log data.
