This diagram demonstrates how the arrangement of information influences interpretation.
There are two flow charts, both have a top level box labelled University.
This box leads in each case to two secondary boxes aligned side by side.
In the first flow chart, the secondary boxes are labelled, from the left 1. students and 2. staff.
In the second flow chart, the box on the left is called staff and the one on the right, students.
Western culture by default prioritizes the left hand side of the page from its tradition of writing from left to right.Thus the first flow chart might indicate to the user that the institution priortises students and the second flow chart that staff are the priority.
This default differs in other cultures thus the user from a different culture might interpret the same arrangement of data in other ways.
