Building Structures for sense-making ..2By default, our print reliant (Western) culture privileges the top left hand side of the text object, so that an item entered at the top left hand comes to be seen to be the more important. It enters a hierarchy of sense-making. This diagram of flow charts shows how heirarchy can shape interpretation.
But the web environment is not like a book - it is more a stage, the cinema or even a painting. And we don't read these things in a linear fashion. Before we straight-jacketed outselves into reading in the linear fashion that books imposed on our minds, we read visual images with a distributed focus.
